Founding a start-up takes nerve. It also takes away too many hours from your life.
If you have in fact started on your own, it is likely that you are biting off more than one can chew!
Besides, being caught in endless projects, working long hours without a break or having no time for a vacation could easily take a toll on your mental health.
A study shows that if time isn’t effectively carved out for friends, family or self, both the business owner and the business itself can suffer.
However, Work-life balance can mean something very different to every individual. But the point is to have a good balance of what you do on the job and off the job. It is rather important that you understand the value of having a life other than your work.
Here are some tips to help you find the balance that’s right for you.
Don’t be afraid to unplug
The fact that we live in a connected world that never sleeps, its gets difficult to cut ties with the outside world. Remember to give yourself a break from technology and spend quality time with your close ones instead.
Cutting out from work time to time has proven to clear the thoughts and helps to relax your mind from the work strain. Staying on all the time is likely to get you exhausted from facing something that might be more important. Sometimes, truly unplugging means taking a vacation and shutting work completely off for a while.
Make deadlines for yourself
Implementing a strong daily routine can help you stay on track and achieve the balance you want. Set up strong habits, like sleeping eight hours, not checking your email for the first few hours of the day, take out time to eat right or timely exercise. Just follow the routine and you are sure to cope up with the balance
Don’t be a perfectionist
As a child, many of us develop the habit of having everything perfect. But it is important to realize that as an entrepreneur, it is practically very difficult to be having everything just right.
When you are building your business, a hundred things can go hay wired. Don’t be too hard on yourself and learn to let go if things are not according to your plan. Strive not for perfection but for excellence – that’s the best way to maintain the balance.
Make time for yourself
No matter how passionate about your startup, don’t forget that your work is not your life. You were an individual before taking this position and you must prioritize doing the things that made you happy. Spend time for your hobbies, spend time for yourself. Play music, write your heart out, cook for your family, read a book— Do anything that you like. Set aside at least an hour a week to do something for you.
It’s easy to get caught up working, but balancing your time to spend with family, friends or yourself is the gateway to a healthy mind and happy soul.
